FAKTOR PENDORONG KEPUTUSAN INDONESIA UNTUK MENERIMA PENGUNGSI ROHINGYA ASAL MYANMAR TAHUN 2020-2022

Abstract

Since 1948, Myanmar has been an independent country after being freed from the British. However, political and social life in Myanmar is still bound by conflict. The Rohingya ethnic conflict became one of the conflicts that occurred as a result of discrimination, which caused not a few Rohingya people to flee. In 2015, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand agreed to take in Rohingya refugees. But in 2020-2022, Thailand and Malaysia refused to accept Rohingya refugees. Malaysia and Thailand's rejection threatens the safety of the refugees. In the world, Indonesia is the only country that accepts Rohingya refugees even though the 1951 Convention and 1967 Protocol were not ratified. This research focuses on discussing the factors that prompted Indonesia to decide to accept Rohingya refugees in 2020-2022. The author in analyzing this research uses foreign policy from Kegley & Raymond (2012). In addition, the authors use qualitative research methods and internet-based research in collecting data. This research found that four factors prompted Indonesia to decide to accept Rohingya refugees, namely geostrategic position, economic conditions, type of government, decision & capacity of leaders.
