dc.description.abstractEthylene glycol (EG) is an organic compound with the chemical formula (𝐶2𝐻6𝑂2) which is colorless, odorless and has low viscosity, making the liquid hygroscopic. Ethylene glycol in Indonesia is very usefull, including as a fiber additive in polyester, containers using PET (polyethylene terephthalate), antifreeze or a mixture in engine cooling water and as an additional raw material for making paint, printing ink solvent, pen ink and cosmetics. Currently, the need for ethylene glycol is met by imports from abroad because ethylene glycol production in Indonesia is not sufficient. Taking this into account, the establishment of an ethylene glycol factory is quite promising if implemented in Indonesia. To reduce dependence on imports and meet domestic ethylene glycol needs, this factory is planned to be built in the Cilegon, Banten industrial area with a production capacity of 70,000.00 tons/year. The process used for the production of ethylene glycol is the hydrolysis process of ethylene oxide and water. This production process will begin by reacting ethylene oxide and water in a plug flow reactor and continued with a purification process using three distillations to produce a product with high purity. The products produced are ethylene glycol of 70,000.00 tons/year with a product purity of 99%, diethylene glycol of 1,537.78 tons/year with a purity of 99% and triethylene glycol of 245.36 tons/year with a purity of 99%. The utility requirements for this factory are 47,648.23 kg/hour of water, 341.21 kg/hour of fuel, 160.15 kg/hour of compressed air and 2,361.20 kWh of electricity. The number of workers required for this factory is 208 workers. Based on economic calculations, the total capital investment (TCI) required to build this factory is IDR 2,534,579,510,926.75. At 100% production capacity, the value of return on investment before tax (ROIb) is 31.72%, return on investment after tax (ROIa) is 23.79%, payout time before tax (POTb) is 3.15 years, payout time after tax (POTb) of 4.20 years, breakeven point (BEP) of 11.11%, shutdown point (SDP) of 7.62% and internal rate of return (IRR) of 15.94%. Based on the results of this economic analysis, an ethylene glycol (EG) factory with a production capacity of 70,000.00 tons/year can be considered to be established in Indonesia.en_US
