ENGINEERING FUNCTIONAL SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS INSPIRED FROM NEPENTHES
Abstract
This research is about study the liquid infused
surface (LIS) on pitcher plants and their synthetic surface.
One of the important properties of LIS is the result of the
contact angle and sliding angle values. The method used in
this research is replica molding to print and get the results of
the replication of the microstructure. The results shown in this
study are the characteristics of the nepenthes based on the
contact angle and sliding angle values. The highest contact
angle results in the original Nepenthes plant was N. glubosa
with a contact angle value of 131.76 ± 90° and the replica of
PDMS was 114.09 ± 7.2°. The sliding angle value in the
replica using PDMS when not lubricated is more than 900.
The sliding angle result for the pitcher plant has the smallest
sliding angle, N. Mirrabilis when lubricated with silicone oil
is 13±1.2° and when given virgin coconut oil is 14.4±1.7°.
The addition of lubricant greatly affects the results of the
sliding angle because the lubricant can make the surface
slippery.
