The purification of sour gas using amine-based solvents
s a significant process n the petroleum and natural gas industries. This study nvestigated the
effect of mixing MEA/DEA solvent nto MDEA to overcome the lack of MDEA n the
purification of CO2 and H2S. The purification of CO2 and H2S aims to meet the specifications
of sweet gas as feed gas for LNG plants, CO2 concentrations below 50 ppmv and H2S
concentrations below 3.5 ppmv. Research variables n the form of mixed amine composition
and absorber pressure were examined to see their effect on CO2 and H2S separation, amine
circulation rate, amines loading, amine losses, water losses, energy consumption, and
economic evaluation based on capital and operational costs. The mixed amine composition
varied from 0-10% wt MEA/DEA nto MDEA with a total weight of 35% wt amine and 65%
water solvent and absorber pressures of 400, 600, and 800 psia were also variations n the study.
This research was conducted by simulating the process using Aspen Hysys V11 software with
the fluid package Amine Package. Evaluation of research parameters and economic
calculations showed that a mixture of 10% wt MEA and 25% wt MDEA at 400 psia was able
to save capital costs of up to Rp 39,130,917,376 per amine replacement and operational costs
of up to Rp 72,921,436,210,206 per year compared to using pure MDEA only. .
