Isopropanol (IPA) is commonly used as an ingredient in the production of acetone or as a final product in the form of cleaning products such as disinfectants. This plant is planned to be established in Cilegon, Banten, in 2024 with a land area of 22,197 m2. The isopropanol production capacity in this plant is 50000 tons/year which operates continuously for 330 days in one year. The raw materials used in the isopropanol production process are propylene and water with the help of a catalyst in the
form of Amberlyst DT. The type of reactor used is a trickle bed reactor with a conversion of 75% and the reaction takes place at a temperature of 120 °C and a pressure of 80 atm non-adiabatic and non-isothermal. The reaction is exothermic and the temperature is maintained so that cooling water is used. The utility unit required in the form of water obtained from the Cipasauran river is 156435.5 kg/hour and electricity need of 510.78 kW. The management of this plant is a Limited Liability
Company (PT) with a total workforce requirement of 294 people. The working capital required is Rp 684,653,946,613.9. The economic prospect of this plant design is with Payout Time during the year 1.36, Rate of Investment of 73.49 %, Breakeven of 19.57 %, Shutdown Point of 10.92 % of production capacity, and Discounted Cash Flow of 19.96 %. From this economic review, it can be concluded that the pre-designed Isopropanol plant with a capacity of 50000 tons/year is feasible to build.
