In the Ammonia production process at PT Petrokimia Gresik, the 107 JB Centrifugal Pump has an important role, especially in the process of releasing CO2 in the process of flowing solutions from benfield. It is known that the 107 JB Centrifugal Pump often has problems, especially damage caused by failures in its axis. In accordance with the news and data in the field in the 2022 period, it is known that there was a failure in the 107 JB pump shaft that interfered with the process of Ammonia production. Damage that occurs to the pump shaft is in the form of cracks, bends and misalignment of the shaft with the pump. Therefore, a more in-depth analysis is carried out to find out the shape of the failure and the cause of the pump shaft being damaged. The analysis carried out is in the form of determining the cause of the failure in the form of patterns of damage and deformation as well as loading that occurs on the shaft of the 107 JB Centrifugal Pump which is adjusted to field data. The research was carried out by identifying the problems that occurred and knowing the work process and the occurrence of failures in the shaft of the 107 JB Pump. The research analyzes from the specification, design and material data of the 107 JB Pump as well as the history of damage that has occurred from the 107 JB pump and documentation data on the pattern of cracks and other damage contained in the pump shaft. Researchers conducted learning from literature related to similar events. Failure analysis of the pump shaft is carried out in two stages, starting from visually observing the pattern of cracks and damage and simulating how failures in the shaft can occur. The simulation is carried out by determining the data to be used by analytical calculations such as torque, the loading that the pump shaft receives in its actual condition. The simulation is carried out with the use of Ansys software. After the analysis with simulation, it is known that the failure occurs from the appearance of the bending moment which causes excessive loading on the shaft when the pump is working and causes cracks (Initial Crack) and it is known that if the work process continues, the shaft of the pump will experience failure in the form of faults and will also experience fatigue failure. The use of material Inconel 718 is known to be a form of similar failure countermeasures and it is known that Inconel 718 has the property of its material which is better than Stainless Steel 17 – 4 PH.en_US
