EKSTRAKSI KALIUM KARBONAT (K2CO3) DARI ABU LIMBAH KULIT KENTANG (Solanum tuberosum L) MENGGUNAKAN METODE LEACHING
Abstract
Potato skins are dirty waste and are simply thrown away. However, potato skins still contain a lot of minerals such as potassium. This research is about the extraction process from potato skin ash using the Leaching method. The tests used were yield value test, pH test, concentration test, FTIR test, and Scanning Electrone Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) test. Based on the research that has been done, the ash yield value obtained from the extraction results is 45%. Then the concentration value for K2CO3 was obtained, which was 0.14 M. Then the pH value for K2CO3 was obtained from the results of the titration method, which was 11.73. It was found that the mass of K2CO3 crystals was 0.634 gram. The results obtained from the SEM-EDX analysis showed that the potassium content in the ash was 35.65%. The yield value of K2CO3 to the mass of 2 grams of potato skin ash was 31.7%. The results obtained from the SEM-EDX analysis showed that the potassium level in the K2CO3 crystal product was 59.2%. K2CO3 from potato skins is in the form of white crystals, odorless and has a deliquescent appearance. Potassium Carbonate (K2CO3) produced from potato skins has a physical appearance similar to commercial K2CO3.
