Urea fertilizer is one of the commodities needed by Indonesian farmers. Design of a urea plant
with ammonia and carbon dioxide raw materials using the Process for Cost and Energy Saving
21 method with a capacity of 60,000 tons/year. The factory will be built in Banggai Regency,
Central Sulawesi and will be built on land with a total area of 43,650 m2 and a total of 135
factory employees. The raw materials in the form of ammonia and carbon dioxide need as much
as 5985.5349 kg/hour of ammonia and 5928.7557 kg/hour of carbon dioxide. The production
process takes place at a temperature of 183 °C and at a pressure of 173 atm in a continuous
bubble reactor. The reaction for the formation of carbamate by ammonia and carbon dioxide
is exothermic and the reaction for the formation of urea from carbamate is endothermic. Utility
needs in the production process include the need for steam generator water of 29494.94066
kg/hour, process water requirement of 867235.042 kg/hour and electricity for the needs of
process equipment and utilities of 884 kWh. From the calculation of the economic evaluation,
it was found that the required total capital investment was IDR 4,149,805,754,082 and working
capital was IDR 3,204,179,811,496. At 100% production capacity, the value of ROIb is
30.78%, ROIa is 23.08%, POTb is 3.24 years, POTa is 4.33 years, BEP is 21.95%, SDP is
19.15% and IRR is 23.88%. From the results of this economic analysis and supported by
Indonesia's stable economy, a urea plant with a production capacity of 60,000 tin per year is
feasible to build in Indonesia.
