PERAN PACIFIC COUNTRIES SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC SOLIDARITY ASSOCIATION (PASIAD) DALAM MENINGKATKAN HUBUNGAN BILATERAL ANTARA INDONESIA DAN TURKI DI BIDANG PERDAGANGAN
Abstract
Pacific Countries Social and Economic Solidarity Association (PASIAD) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) originated from Turkey that is engaging in the sector of economy, education, and socio-cultural. This organization grew rapidly in Indonesia for 15 years and gave a positive impact on the bilateral cooperation of Indonesia and Turkey specifically on the trade sector. This is supported by the main donators of PASIAD who are traders, entrepreneurs, and also academics, hence, made PASIAD a soft-power instrument of Turkey to increase its trade in Indonesia. Through the soft-power approach and economic diplomacy, PASIAD succeed in becoming the representative of Turkey in Indonesia. This research is conducted using the qualitative-analysis which is done by literature study of various resources such as books, scientific journals, research reports, field research, and also a depth interview to obtain the appropriate data. According to the research, it is found that during its operation in Indonesia (2004-2015), PASIAD as an international NGO, run its function very well so that the balance of trade of Indonesia and Turkey significantly increasing. Vice versa, as the PASIAD no longer operates in Indonesia post-coup (2016-2018), the balance of trade of Indonesia was declining. Hence, it could be seen that PASIAD gave a positive contribution during its operation in Indonesia in a form of increasing bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Turkey in the trade sector.
