dc.descriptionHubungan antara Jepang dan Korea Selatan sangat dipengaruhi oleh kolonialisme Jepang di Korea dari 1910 hingga 1945, yang membawa perubahan signifikan namun juga menimbulkan ketegangan berkelanjutan. Isu kontroversial seperti perlakuan terhadap comfort women dan kerja paksa selama Perang Dunia II memperburuk hubungan diplomatik, diperumit oleh politisasi sejarah, revisi buku pelajaran, dan kunjungan ke kuil bersejarah. Pemerintahan Presiden Korea Selatan Lee Myung Bak membahas kerja sama keamanan melalui GSOMIA sejak 2011, tetapi penandatanganannya gagal pada 2012 karena penolakan kuat dari masyarakat konservatif dan liberalserta parlemen. Pada 2016, Presiden Park Geun hye menghidupkan kembali GSOMIA dan menandatanganinya pada 23 November, meskipun ada keberatan domestik. Persetujuan dipengaruhi oleh kekuatan militer Jepang yang lebih unggul dan dorongan dari Amerika Serikat untuk memperkuat aliansi trilateral guna menjaga perdamaian dan keamanan di Asia Pasifik, dengan Presiden Park memprioritaskan keamanan nasional dan kepentingan regional. Berdasarkan analisis tersebut pertanyaan penelitian yang diajukan peneliti adalah “Mengapa Jepang dan Korea Selatan perlu bekerja sama dalam GSOMIA?’’en_US
dc.description.abstractPenelitian ini membahas tentang urgensi kerja sama General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) antara Jepang dengan Korea Selatan. Pertanyaan yang muncul dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana urgensi kedua negara untuk bekerja sama dalam GSOMIA. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk mengeksplorasi konteks dan urgensi kerja sama GSOMIA antara Jepang dan Korea Selatan. Desain penelitian yang diterapkan adalah studi kasus, yang memungkinkan analisis mendalam terhadap fenomena spesifik, yaitu kerja sama GSOMIA di tengah hubungan bilateral yang tegang antara kedua negara. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan data primer dan sekunder dari berbagai sumber seperti dokumen resmi, literatur akademik, dan berita untuk memperoleh pemahaman menyeluruh mengenai fenomena yang diteliti. Penelitian ini menggunakan Balance of Threat Theory melalui dua konsep yaitu source of threat dan alliance. Dikarenakan adanya konsep source of threat, penelitian ini menganalisis faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi persepsi ancaman di kedua negara dan bagaimana hal tersebut memotivasi keduanya untuk meningkatkan kerja sama militer. Kemudian, konsep alliance, melihat bagaimana kemitraan strategis antara Jepang dan Korea Selatan pada akhirnya dapat meningkatkan pertahanan regional kedua negara terhadap kekuatan eksternal atau negara lain yang lebih kuat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kerja sama di GSOMIA sangat penting bagi keamanan nasional kedua negara, terutama dalam menghadapi ancaman dan dinamika keamanan yang semakin kompleks di Kawasan Asia Timur.en_US
