dc.description.abstract | Corrosion is a major issue in the oil and gas industry, particularly in pipelines used for transporting oil and gas. Efforts to reduce corrosion rates are often conducted using chemical inhibitors, which may have negative environmental impacts. This study aims to evaluate the potential of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) as an eco-friendly natural corrosion inhibitor. Cowpea extract contains organic compounds such as tannins, flavonoids, and polyphenols, which can form a protective layer on metal surfaces, thereby inhibiting corrosion reactions. The research was conducted using gravimetric and electrochemical methods to measure the inhibitor's effectiveness on carbon steel pipes exposed to corrosive media. The results indicate that cowpea extract significantly reduces the corrosion rate, with inhibitor efficiency reaching over 80% at certain concentrations. Therefore, the use of cowpea as a corrosion inhibitor offers an economical and sustainable solution for the oil and gas industry. | en_US |
