Reservoir simulation is one of the important components in the petroleum industry. By
conducting reservoir simulations in production, the production process will have less risk.
Reservoir simulation will help company to design an optimum strategy for achieving target in
producing reservoir. However, in general, conventional simulations require quite a lot of data and
take a long time to simulate. The amount of data and time required linearly affecting the
company's expenses. The Capacitance Resistance Model (CRM) comes as a solution for these
problems.
CRM is an analogous model that analyzes the relationship between injection rate and production
rate. The output generated from CRM is history matching model with supporting parameters
represented by connectivity and time constant. The output model from CRM can be used to
predict the production rate while the estimated parameters can be interpreted for further use in
the optimization of producing the reservoir.
CRM has several types such as tank model (CMRT) and producer based model (CRMP). The CRMT
model analyzes the reservoir as a single tank, where the data used are total production rate data
and total injection rate. Meanwhile, the CRMP model analyzes the reservoir based on each
producer well and the injectors around it. CMRT will generate a simple model that represents the
entire reservoir while CRMP will generate a more detailed model.
The effect of saturation, well position, sealing fault, as well as heterogeneity on permeability will
be tested in the CRM model. The influence of these variables on the performance of CRM in
performing history matching will be analyzed. Also, their influence in the connectivity and time
constant parameters will be investigated.
