    Abstract
This research is motivated by the increasing public demand for essential oils. The increasing demand is due to the widespread knowledge of the community in traditional medicine. The essential oil obtained from the Qust al Hindi plant (Saussurea Lappa) has various secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, lignin, and sesquiterpenoid phytosterols. Plants isolated by two different methods, namely steam distillation and the Soxhlet approach, obtained %yield with each sample of IK.1, IK.2, IK.3, IK.4, IK.5, and IK.6, respectively, 0,41%; 1,26%; 2,10%; 0,99%; 3,64%; and 1,43%. The results of qualitative FTIR analysis on samples IK.2, IK.3, IK.4, and IK.5 showed the presence of functional groups O=H, C=O, C=C, and C-O stretching vibrations that matched the flavonoid monomer. Then the GC and GC-MS analysis on samples IK.1, IK.2, IK.5, and IK.6 obtained several component compounds including 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid, Caryophyllene oxide, beta-elemene, trans-Caryophyllene , Cyclohexane, and Bicyclo in the Saussurea Lappa plant.
