Torque and Drag Analysis on Directional Drilling in AD-1 Well at 12.25" Hole Section Using Software
Abstract
This research discusses the analysis of the torque and drag simulation results in the
AD-1 well. The main focus of this research is to find out with the addition of a depth
of 1650 m in the AD-1 well using the AD-1X scenario which has the same drillstring
design and operating parameter values, whether drilling can be carried out. The
research plan related to the addition of depth to the AD-1 well with the AD-1X scenario
is a recommendation to be given to the company because the majority of the wells in
the Kalimantan field have a depth range of 2000 - 3500 m. This research begins by
performing a friction factor calibration on the AD-1 well which is matched with the
actual torque and drag data belonging to the offset well during drilling operations. The
friction factor value calibrated is in the open hole because there are many uncertainties
when drilling operations are carried out, so it is necessary to calibrate to make sure the
drillstring design used and the operating parameter values can be used safely in drilling
operations.
The results of this study are based on the simulation results of torque and drag on the
AD-1 well which is safe for drilling. However, in the scenario of adding depth to the
AD-1X with drillstring design-1, it is not safe to drill. Because there is a stress failure
problem in the drill pipe 5” #21.92 CS API 5D/7 - G. So the evaluation that can be
given is to change the drill pipe grade from type G to type S. After replacing the drill
pipe, no more problems were found in the drillstring component. So that the AD-1X
well with the drillstring design-2 scenario can be drilled.
