The final project aims to measure the effect of zinc concentration on the corrosion
rate of MgCaTiZn by using the EIS method, polarization potentiation, and
metallography. Magnesium alloy is synthesized by milling, compacting, sintering, and
mounting steps to produce a metal alloy with two zinc variations, namely 3 and 10.
Several characterization methods are used to measure and to determine
morphological surface and the corrosion rate of the samples. The measurement
results showed that the higher zinc concentration in the MgCaTiZn alloy gave the
higher the corrosion rate. This data was supported by the appearance of the larger
pore size (98,541 μm to 115,231 μm) and the larger grain size (226,965 μm to
365,765 μm) because of image capture using metallographic techniques. In addition,
an increase in the corrosion rate due to the addition of zinc content occurred in both
test solutions, namely disodium hydrogen phosphate (0.4676 mm/year to 0.4990
mm/year) and disodium hydrogen phosphate + histidine (0.3994 mm/year to 0,
84216 mm/year).
