dc.description.abstractThis final research project is about modeling and analyzing torque & drag in a high inclination directional well, specifically the MF-1 well as an offset well which is a high inclination directional well located in the BSB Field. The modeling process involves conducting simulations using a simulator to determine the block weight, followed by calculating the friction factor based on the obtained block weight and input parameters from actual data during drilling operations. The focus of the study is on the 12.25” cased hole and 8.5” open hole sections of the MF-1 well, which serve as the initial subjects for modeling and analyzing torque & drag, as well as for obtaining the block weight and friction factor open hole values. The results obtained from MF-1 well are then utilized for drilling MF-2 well, which is an Extended Reach Drilling (ERD) well with an additional depth of 13,239 ft-MD compared to the MF-1 well. The objective of drilling the MF-2 well is to determine whether the parameters from MF-1 well with the same drill string designs can be applied to the MF-2 well. The results show, it is revealed that when using the same parameter and drill string components for drilling the MF-2 well, certain issues arise, such as sinusoidal buckling during tripping in and torque failure during rotating on bottom, backreaming, and rotating off bottom, specifically in drill pipe with the 5.5” 25.42# CS_API 5D/7 Grade G (P). Consequently, the recommended solutions are to replace the drill pipe with a different grade and weight, which is the drill pipe with 5.5” 27.87# CS_API 5D/7 Grade S (P). Additionally, it is advised to use lubricants and ensure a clean borehole, which can reduce the friction factor in the open hole to 0.15. Therefore, by implementing these two recommendations, the issues related to sinusoidal buckling and torque failure can be solved. Furthermore, the determination of the rig capacity is carried out based on the modeling and analyzing torque & drag of the MF-2 well using the respective recommendations provided.en_US
